Back in 2018 when my last album was released, it was actually two records in one package. The first disc featured all of the original songs and the second was a collection of covers and remixes of those songs by other artists, including Tiffany, The Dandy Warhols, Jarryd James, and a bunch of other super talented folks.
My music distributor at the time did something dumb where all of those other people’s songs only got attributed to me when things went public-facing at stores and on streaming services and, because of that, those tracks have never been visible under any of the other artist’s names, anywhere the record appeared.
Long, incredibly expensive, annoying independent music story short: I got a record deal last year and Kill Rock Stars will be re-releasing the My Movie Star covers and remixes next month! They will FINALLY be in the right place on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, TIDAL, Deezer, and everywhere else.
Thank you to the Recording Academy for an amazing week at the Grammys, to my friend Ruth for being my co-pilot the entire time, to Questlove, Dave Chappelle, Ty Dolla $ign, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Black Thought for inviting us to party the night before the big show, to Alessandro Michele and Gucci for dressing me while I was in LA, and to Hollywood for delivering adventure at every turn.
Congrats to Kit Williamson, John Halbach, and my entire Netflix EastSiders TV family on being a Critic’s Pick in today’s New York Times Sunday Arts section!
If you haven’t already, go watch this show right now. I had the absolute pleasure of being much of the soundtrack you hear throughout Season 4, and am so proud to be a part of this big gay moment in time.
I have a live EP coming out January 31st — my first release for Banana Stand Records — and the good folks at Toronto’s Disarm Magazine have the exclusive premiere of the first two videos today on their site!
Watch “Underground (Live)” and “My Movie Star (Live)” featuring Glasys on keys now, only at Disarm Mag HERE, or keep reading below for the transcript.
From Disarm Magazine: (1/6/20)
Portland-based musician Logan Lynn has announced a new 4 track live EP, Unpeeled, to be released January 31st on Banana Stand Records. This is a brand new format for the multifaceted Logan Lynn, who has never before released a live record/performance like this. Unpeeled also marks his debut with Portland’s Banana Stand Media, a staple of the Portland / Pacific Northwest that works to preserve the live sounds of the indie music scene.

For a year that included me having to fight multiple tech companies in and out of the press for protecting trolls and profiting off of abuse, a full blown RV manufacturing scandal and international media tour that I inexplicably found myself at the center of as a RoadTrek owner, and a major integration back into society after 9 months of off-grid misadventuring at the beach, I love that my 2019 still somehow managed to be all about pop stars, very pretty clothes, building rad shit with my favorite people, responding to hate by going punk on systems change, having my songs somehow make their way into the mainstream, signing to a new label, and the beauty of nature in spite of it all.
If you’re reading this, fuck yes. I love you. Thanks for being here. 🖤
We recorded a 4 track live EP with Portland music scene heroes Banana Stand Media and it’s being released on Friday, January 31st! They’re going to be releasing the live performance videos from my “Unpeeled” session with Glasys on keys, as well.
We (predictably) lost the Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album nomination to Barbra Streisand, John Legend, Elvis Costello, Michael Bublé, and Andrea Bocelli, but holy hell it was fun to see our names on that ballot.
I also cannot stress enough how much I loved working with (and then #Grammy campaigning with!!!!) my childhood pop hero Tiffany. Her beautiful rendition of Big City Now from My Movie Star ultimately lost the Best Pop Solo Performance nom to Beyoncé, Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, Lizzo and Taylor Swift, but I’m #TeamTiff FOREVER.
Working across genres on My Movie Star was really exciting, and while Scott Simpson’s cover of Underground was knocked out of the Best Country Solo Performance race by Willie Nelson, Blake Shelton, Ashley McBryde, Tyler Childers, and Tanya Tucker in round 2, infiltrating the Country ballot was a trip.
Congrats, everybody! I’ll see you at the big show in LA on January 26th. 🤘🏆
Proud to join the Recording Academy / GRAMMYs in celebrating the many talented people #BehindTheRecord!
Thank you to all the musicians, engineers, writers, producers, artists and performers who brought My Movie Star to life. This album would never have been possible without each of you.
Today the Recording Academy opened 1st round voting for the GRAMMY® Awards and Logan Lynn’s My Movie Star is in the running for THREE different categories! If you are a Voting Member of the Recording Academy / GRAMMYs®, thank you in advance for considering this work.
