Every so often people send me stuff that they’ve created with my songs on their own, and I always find it moving when something of mine has spoken to someone else somehow.
This week I received a video from an artist named Dandy Jon who is also a fan. Dude made a music video of clips from Greg Araki‘s film “The Living End” set to my song “Things Are Looking Up” (the opening track from my 2010 record “I Killed Tomorrow Yesterday“) and holy shit. It’s awesome.

I’m back in Portland for a few days midway through our summer tour and figured I would tell you things about the first leg of shows!
The tour kicked-off in San Francisco at Beatbox on Friday night and was great. I heard after the show that one of my all-time musical heroes Bob Mould had asked the tour organizer the day before what time I was performing and then he came to the show! So awesome.
Of course, this also means that Bob got to see me knock both of my bottles of water off of a stool and onto the stage during a song, where they began pouring out into a rat’s nest of wires surrounding me. In an act of quick-thinking, fancy footwork, I repurposed my green LaCoste face towels (which Gino and I use to keep the sweat from blinding us on stage) and used one foot to mop it up while I sang the opening of our next song. It was pretty special. Here’s to not getting publicly electrocuted on stage in SF!

On Sunday we played at Los Globos in Los Angeles and had a really special time with all of you there as well! I fucking LOVE LA.

Thank you to Gino Mari and Michael Brillig for designing my live show and to Gino especially for being on the road with me and getting me from point A to point B every step of the way!
We’ll be in Portland on Thursday, Seattle on Sunday, and the grand finale in New York City on July 19th! See you again soon, California.
