Brendan Maclean is an Australian pop artist and LGBTQIA+ icon—an award-winning singer-songwriter and acclaimed stage and screen performer known for powerhouse vocals, theatrical flair, and unforgettable live shows.

In 2017, Maclean made queer-culture history with his now-infamous music video “House of Air.” Shot in London on film and inspired by Hal Fischer’s 1966 essay Gay Semiotics, the video’s explicit, unfiltered celebration of homoerotic subculture saw it banned from YouTube—yet it has gone on to exceed 7.5 million views as a Vimeo Staff Pick. Deep into pre-production on a new film project thingy and have been thinking a lot about how lucky I am to still be getting to make stuff I care about with people I care to be around, now 3 decades into my career.

I know that not everybody gets to be here and do this — much less for so long. I’m not sure why I do, but it is not lost on me that it’s still happening, and I am grateful.
