As a songwriter, I have one rule: I always say it to the person before I write it in a song. If I feel that I can’t speak some truth to you first, I won’t sing it about you after.

Art imitates life.
Fiction imitates memory.
Avoidance imitates heartbreak.

I suppose if you can’t tell the difference when it matters, the next best thing is a metaphor.

Wrapped up the Idaho chapter of my silly little life this past week and have been thinking a lot about the things we do for love and art. Not sure I make a distinction between the two, when it comes down to it. My motivations are the same with both.

Very proud of the work I made while I was there. And also I am so happy it’s all over. ❤️
