I wrote a song called “Oh, Lucifer” about reclaiming Hell as a safe space for queer people and ended my new record ADIEU with it at the end of last year.

Our decision to release the video today, Donald J. Trump’s first day in office, was no accident. Oh, and…he makes a cameo.

On Friday, January 20^th, 2017 Portland indie pop musician Logan Lynn releases “Oh, Lucifer”, a new music video in protest of Donald Trump’s Presidential Inauguration.

Logan Lynn stars in the “Oh, Lucifer” video alongside his producer Gino Mari and a cast of original puppets created by puppeteer Matthew Hopkins, which includes David Bowie, George Michael, Freddie Mercury, Donald Trump, Rev. Fred Phelps (Westboro Baptist Church), cult leader Jim Jones (whose final murderous sermon is also sampled in the song), puppet versions of Logan and Gino, as well as many others.

Logan Lynn’s reclaiming of eternal Hellfire and damnation on “Oh, Lucifer” is a brutal roasting of the religious fundamentalist cult he escaped as a young person and a grandiose middle finger to all of the insufferable anti-gay bigots he has encountered in the years since.  With lyrics like “Remember, my dears that if we don’t sin then Jesus died for f—ing nothing” while a demon voice sample growls “Faggots should be burned” in the background, Lynn isn’t holding back on the final song on his latest record, ADIEU; and he isn’t holding back in the music video that accompanies it, either.

“I have been beside myself since Election Day…in a daze. Making this video was the only thing I could think of to do with all of this hopelessness I feel.” Lynn said. “It felt really good to put Donald Trump in prison and blow up ‘God Hates Fags’ protest signs and give electro-shock therapy to Fred Phelps and all the other wild stuff we did to puppets in this video.  It was healing somehow.”

“Oh, Lucifer” was produced by Portland Film Works, the production company also responsible for Logan Lynn’s “Tramp Stamps and Birthmarks” music video from 2013 and his “Go There When You Want To Be Loved” video from 2016, and was written and directed by Portland filmmaker Kevin Forrest.

Logan partnered with designer Emily Payne (“Project Runway”, “Project Runway: All Stars”, Leathertongue) on a custom-made couture “Mega-Hoodie” costume for the video, with additional costuming by Gucci, Marc Jacobs, Dita Eyewear and ASOS.

Named one of the “Top 10 Albums of 2016” by Blurt Magazine, Lynn’s 8^th studio album ADIEU was released on September 23^rd, 2016 to critical acclaim and has been endorsed by journalists and celebrities ranging from actor and comedian Jay Mohr, to The Dandy Warhols and Hutch Harris of The Thermals.  The record is available on 150 gram red vinyl double album, CD Digipak and Digital Download.

As you probably have heard, the Washington State Senate passed a marriage equality bill Wednesday night, clearing the way for a vote in the House, which looks poised to legalize unions for same-sex couples throughout the state. This means that if I walk out of my house in Portland, Ore. and drive across the I-5 bridge to Vancouver, Wash. (less than five miles away from my front door), I am now considered equal to my heterosexual counterparts and can legally marry the man I love, but once I drive back over that bridge to my house in the state I pay taxes to, I become a second-class citizen once again and cannot.

Well, fuck that, Oregon — and fuck that, America! How can people hate me and my love so much? All my life I have just wanted to be myself. I have wished for others to respect me as a human being in return for respecting them, but instead, I have been made to feel like something less than by my country, by my fellow man and, once again, just moments ago, by my home state.

I smell freedom across the I-5 bridge to Washington, and I want it. I deserve it. I am thrilled for my brothers and sisters in our neighboring state, but being able to see equality now just over the river has added insult to injury. Equality is mine to have as a citizen of this country and is, quite frankly, no one else’s to give. Marriage discrimination, as with any form of discrimination, is truly a cancer on our society. It destroys everything we work so hard to protect, and it weakens us. It strips away our freedom and is just plain un-American.

We are entering into a political vortex this year, with campaigns and agendas flying by every which way. I encourage you to stay focused on equality. Keep fighting to be yourself. Demand respect as a human being, and in return, respect others. Do not let your country make you feel less than any longer, because you are not. You are exactly who you are supposed to be, and don’t let the state of Oregon or any other bigots who “aren’t ready” for marriage equality tell you otherwise.

This is your country, and your love is just as beautiful as anyone else’s love. The end.
