AMERIKKKA and Everything And Everyone You Have Ever Known

Two more new songs from The Pain And The Power original motion picture soundtrack are out today, via PortuGAY at KNIK Records / Secretly Canadian.

Side A: AMERIKKKA

Side B: Everything And Everyone You Have Ever Known

AMERIKKKA is perhaps the most confrontational song I’ve ever written. It’s about watching queer and trans people become political targets in real time and recognizing that, for many of us, the danger is no longer theoretical. It’s about the grief and terror of realizing that the country I call home is increasingly willing to erase my humanity — and wondering what I am supposed to do when it’s already too late to run.

Everything And Everyone You Have Ever Known turns that lens inward. While side A confronts the violence of the outside world, side B explores the interior landscape of isolation, memory, and survival. As a queer man, I’ve spent much of my life navigating loneliness, addiction, loss, and the feeling of existing on the margins. It’s about the moment when external noise fades and I am left alone with myself, carrying the weight of everyone I have loved, everyone I have lost, and every version of myself I have had to leave behind. Happy Pride from PortuGAY

I left Kill Rock Stars last year to build and launch an LGBTQ+ label imprint under the KNIK Records umbrella — PortuGAY. It’s Pride month and I am proud to announce that we are live!

The PortuGAY division of KNIK Records spans genres and aims to platform LGBTQ+ voices during a time when Queer, Trans and two-spirited artists are being dropped by their labels, silenced by the media, attacked by their fellow citizens, and dehumanized by government leaders. This label believes in the inherent value of these artists and voices, and knows that society improves when LGBTQ+ people are happy, safe, loved, celebrated, and at the big table where we belong.

The first official release under PortuGAY at KNIK is my new record, The Pain And The Power, which is also the soundtrack to an incoming documentary by Cai Indermaur about my life, addiction, recovery, and career, headed your way this fall. Info about the album as well as tickets for advance screenings of The Pain And The Power are on sale now at ThePainAndThePower.gay

Thank you to Portugal. The Man for believing in this project and to the team at KNIK / Secretly Canadian for being a bunch of baddies.
