This Tuesday, June 2nd I’ll be disconnecting from work to participate in the #MusicIndustryBlackout and stand in solidarity with my colleagues, fellow artists, and the community. This is not a day off.
As gatekeepers of the culture, it’s our responsibility to not only come together to celebrate the wins, but also hold each other up during loss. Join us as we take an urgent step of action to provoke accountability and change together. ✊
Been a long, rainy couple of weeks in Portland, Oregon — but full of opportunities to connect and make sure the people I care about know how much they mean to me.
Lots of really exciting announcements coming up soon, but here’s a little bit of what I’ve been up to with Portugal. The Man as we move toward launching PTM Foundation this year…
Portland City Commissioner Amanda Fritz, Senior Policy Advisor Cynthia Castro, Tribal Relations Director Laura John, and the Office of Government Relations have been working hand-in-hand with Communities of Indigenous Peoples and allies across the region to build a coalition of support for city-wide policy which will ensure that Land Acknowledgements take place at all City of Portland events! So awesome. Nice work, Commissioner! Thanks for hosting us last week at City Hall. We’re all super excited to support these efforts.
Later that same day, Zachary Carothers and I went to hear Tara Zhaabowekwe Houska speak about her work on the frontlines of environmental justice at the intersection of Indigenous Rights and it was nothing short of completely inspired.
We also had breakfast with Tara that morning and got to hear all about her mission and vision. So glad we got to connect while she was in town. My main takeaway is always: I have so much to learn.
The reality is, Indigenous Peoples face persistent and enduring challenges to their communities, their lands, and their basic human rights, with extremely limited support from the broad spectrum of philanthropic institutions…which is why the band has decided to launch PTM Foundation in the first place. The extreme disparity is wrong, and we’re going to do something about it.

Singing to a Different Tune: How Logan Lynn Breaks Stigma With Music
Logan Lynn sometimes has unspeakable thoughts.
The versatile artist, whose music career has spanned more than 20 years, will often experience moments when he can’t quite communicate what he’s thinking, how he feels or why he feels it. It’s can be a paralyzing and terrifying conundrum, and one that is far too familiar to the millions of people like him who experience depression.
“My depression feels, at times, so great that I can’t even find words to tell someone how I’m feeling … but my pen usually seems to still work,” said Lynn, who has lived experience managing depression, addiction and suicidal ideation. Read the rest of this entry »

Portland-based indie rockers Portugal. The Man are teaming up with Keep Oregon Well and its co-founder Logan Lynn to advocate for mental health awareness throughout Oregon.
Lynn, who co-founded the campaign in 2014, agreed that mental health needs to be discussed more openly to help break the stigma surrounding it. “As a suicide survivor myself, I know how important not feeling isolated is,” he said in a statement. “Stigma exists because people have been made to feel like mental and behavioral health challenges are personal character flaws, versus being like any other medical condition. If you break your arm tomorrow, would you feel shame?”
Lynn made clear that in all he does, he has only one end point in mind: “I won’t stop doing this work until every last bit of the shame that prevents people like me from seeking help in the first place, is gone.”
