Portland’s Logan Lynn’s Long-Awaited New Album My Movie Star Now Available

Singer/songwriter Logan Lynn is back and musing on life, love, and the pitfalls of Hollywood stardom in his new album, “My Movie Star,” released on October 12th.

Produced by actor/comedian Jay Mohr, the album features collaborations with The Dandy WarholsGLASYS, and DoublePlusGood, as well as 80s pop phenom Tiffany, Australian pop star Jarryd JamesRian Lewis and many more.

This toned-down album takes Lynn in an entirely new direction from his dance-centric previous work. Lynn wrote the songs for the album on the Steinway piano in his living room, streaming the initial writing sessions live for his social media followers. The original lineup featured 19 new songs; together with Mohr, Lynn pared it down to 10 original songs. The 2-disc double album, recorded at The Hallowed Halls in Portland, Oregon will also feature several collaborative remixes and covers.Mohr, who Lynn credits as inspiration for the album, has truly put himself out there for the production of the album – not only writing two of the songs, but also by stirring up huge media buzz by baring it all in an outdoor shower in the video for “Nothing’s Ever Wrong.” Says Mohr about the song, “Logan Lynn is a brilliant artist. The best in a generation at harnessing raw emotion. On ‘Nothing’s Ever Wrong,” he let’s just enough of them get loose from their harness, the exact amount that will knock you on your ass.

You don’t realize how stripped down and bare bones the recording is because of its power.  Just Logan and his piano sharing glimpses of his deepest bruises. Beautiful shards of his pain, it’s pretty overwhelming to hear someone sharing what most keep locked away. It’s humbling.”

In that song, as well as others such as “Big City Now” and “Underground,” Lynn weaves a poignant theme of vulnerability and the desire for approval. He intended the album to be about the inner lives of the people he knows and loves. This is a thematic departure from his previous album, ADEIU, which explored the world of mental health and recovery.

As a suicide survivor, Lynn has become a vocal mental health advocate, talking openly about his journey in hopes of giving strength to others and removing the stigma surrounding mental health issues. He’s worked with various mental health initiatives, as well as partnered with other celebrities and artists such as Alice Cooper, Kevin Bacon, and Portugal. The Man to help provide education and outreach for those who need assistance.

Billboard Premieres New Logan Lynn Record Featuring Tiffany, The Dandy Warhols, Jarryd James and More

On Friday Billboard premiered Portland, Oregon-based indie pop musician Logan Lynn’s 9th studio record, My Movie Star alongside a new interview about the project, review of the album, and new music video. Read the whole article here.

The 20 song, 2 disc My Movie Star LP was co-produced by Logan Lynn and actor / comedian Jay Mohr (Saturday Night Live, Jerry Maguire) and features collaborations with 80s pop icon Tiffany (I Think We’re Alone Now), alternative rock gods The Dandy Warhols, Australian neo-soul king Jarryd James and dozens of other bands, artists and producers.

In their review of the new album, Billboard writes “For nearly 20 years, dance-pop artist Logan Lynn has made a career out of crafting catchy, disorderly songs that almost all include big beats, fun melodies and cheeky lyrics. But on his latest album, My Movie Star, Lynn has traded in his signature sound for a more somber, melancholy tone — a dynamic new album consisting of Lynn’s new piano-driven songs and filled with remixes and covers by other industry greats.”

Self-Titled Magazine calls Logan Lynn’s My Movie Star “his most intimate work yet…so spare and spellbinding it threatens to stop time entirely. Or at the very least, force you to put that mobile device down and actually listen.” while Innocent Words Magazine writes “Logan Lynn is a modern day Gene Kelly.”

The album is available now on deluxe edition double CD, vinyl and digital download wherever music is streamed and sold. Lynn, who just wrapped up a summer tour raising awareness about mental health on the road with fellow Portland rockers Portugal. The Man, will be touring the U.S. in support of My Movie Star this spring.
