LOGAN LYNN // NEW MONEY \\ OUT NOW!

REMIXER SPOTLIGHT: BAD LIFE PLUS GADGETS + LOGAN LYNN

Asteroid Belt/Jean Goode/Bad Life + Gadgets (2009)

“Bad Life + Gadgets”

“Bad Life + Gadgets” is based out of NYC and is the sum of two parts: Jean Goode and Teddy Forthewin…they are friends of my band by way of Carlos, who produced my new record, “From Pillar To Post”, and is now on the East Coast with them producing a solo record for Jean.

These guys have undercurrents of hip-hop and trip-hop all wound into this sort of indie electro experience and, well…they have their hands in EVERYTHING including a remix of “Write It On My Left Arm” for Volume 3 of my “Blood In The Water” Remix EP Collection. It’s great and will be coming at you in November.

Jean Goode also lent her voice to “Feed Me To The Wolves” on my new release…Jean and Teddy are lovely and talented and I’m stoked on their remix. You will be too, VERY SOON!

Logan Lynn: "From Pillar To Post" Album Cover (2009)

It’s Friday, September 4th 2009—and, as promised: The wait IS, in fact, OVER. My new record, “From Pillar To Post”, doesn’t hit stores, iTunes and everywhere else until Tuesday, November 24th…but we decided that “waiting is stupid so why do it any longer?”

You guys can get an advance digital copy of the record NOW when you pre-order the CD, Vinyl or any of the packages we have going on for the pre-release festivities…or, keep it simple and just stick to the digital. Either way, all of you who pick it up during this time will also receive ALL FOUR VOLUMES of the “Blood In The Water” Remix EP Collection—33 songs all together!

I want to thank Carlos Cortes who co-wrote and Produced the record with me, Jeremy Sherrer who Mixed it, K. Evan Hodge IV (K4) who Mastered it, all the musicians who played and performed on it, all the remixers who remixed it, Ryan Wines for making the release a reality and all of you who have believed in this project since day one (my songs AND in me) PARTICULARLY The Dandy Warhols, who have been so patient with me during the last couple of years while I made it…never pressuring me to hurry up and finish, always offering advice and support, letting me roam free in their kingdom so the record could take shape…”Thank you” doesn’t really cut it for anyone on that list, but it’s a start.

Hope you dig the new diggz, kiddz. I am really excited to finally get to share all of this with all of you.

🙂

FINALLY!!!!

"THE DELI MAGAZINE" REVIEW CALLS "FROM PILLAR TO POST" THE BEST ALBUM TO COME OUT OF PORTLAND THIS YEAR!!!

Logan Lynn (2009)

It doesn’t really get any better than what “The Deli Magazine” had to say about my new record today. Check out the full post HERE or, you can read a bit from the review just below:

“Logan Lynn’s new album From Pillar To Post will be released via Lynn’s Web site starting tomorrow, September 4th, over two full months before its iTunes and nationwide retail release.

From Pillar To Post is more than just an electro-pop hustle; Lynn’s solemn vocal intonations – monotone and richly verbose – transform what would otherwise simply be stunningly melancholy dance-punk into another, less traveled road of stoic expression.

Tracks ooze with pop-y blips before the thud of driving beats implores you to submit to the lurking troubadour hiding within. In all honesty, I feel a sense of overt creepiness every time I listen to the album. It’s dark and rough and sopping with droplets of introspective rehabilitation, like an audio diary plucked from the newly healthy hands of a 21st Century Robotic Digi-genius.

It’s probably the best album, electronic or otherwise, to have been released out of Portland this entire year. AND it was weaned into being by the dudes in the Dandy Warhols, via Beat the World Records.”

THE NEW RECORD GOT A GREAT REVIEW OVER AT "MIC CONTROL" TODAY!

Logan Lynn (2009)

You can read the full post at “Mic Control” HERE, but here’s a bit to tide you over:

“From Pillar To Post, the newly released album by Logan Lynn is everything one would want from an album dubbed ‘electro-pop’. Sort of a mash-up of electronica, hip-hop-esque beats and pop sensibility, Logan Lynn has created a sound that, while can draw comparisons to similar artists such as The Postal Service, could also be called modern day new wave. Similar to the new wave movement of the 80’s, where the music was experimental in nature, using heavily synthesized instruments and affected vocals to create polished and very catchy pop tunes, Logan Lynn follows in suit using all of the powers of production to his advantage to create a sound that is as tight as it is catchy.

What I find interesting about this album is that, for the exception of an acoustic guitar, there are really no sounds used that resemble any real instruments. While this is typical of eletro-based music, using synthesizers and other heavily affected instruments to create a dense wall of layer-upon-layer style music, there are still typically organic instrument sounds blended into the mix. But with From Pillar To Post, even the drums have a produced sound to them. Normally I would be against this sound, because I feel that stripping any organic sounds out of music makes it feel cold, but Logan Lynn has found a way for me to be able to enjoy it. I think it has to do with the fact that Logan is creating sincere pop, not electronica. So although the music is electro based, the song forms, the hooks, the melodies and especially the harmonies are all very much pop-oriented.

The production of the album is fantastic, and with this type of music, that makes all the difference. Each layer has been added to the mix with perfection, allowing every single detail to be heard. Harmonized voices reign over the music and subtle reverb and echo effects pan beautifully from left to right. The quality of these recordings actually add to the accessibility of the album, allowing the lyrics to be easily understood and the vocal hook during the chorus to be felt with full effect. Don’t let the electro sounds fool you- this is a modern pop album. From Pillar To Post actually exceeded my expectations in that it has succeeded where so many similar albums have failed. (“From Pillar To Post”) remains a statement of artistic self-expression without forgetting what pop is all about.”

CHECK OUT LOGAN LYNN IN THE 2009 MUSICFEST NORTHWEST FESTIVAL GUIDE & SONICBIDS AD!

Logan Lynn (2009)

As you may know, I have a showcase at the HUGE Portland annual bandfest MFNW again this year! I will be playing Friday, September 18th at 9pm at East End (203 SE Grand Ave.) with Royal Bangs, The Punk Group, & Tigercity! Come out and play!

I popped up in the guide in a couple of places this year…Here is what my blurb (on page 21 of the MFNW festival guide) reads:

“LOGAN LYNN – (Dancy Pantsy)
Portland beat boy Logan Lynn has range. His songs span from slutty to romantic, from cluttered to clean as a whistle. Since signing with Beat The World Records (The Dandy Warhols label), Lynn has been cranking out peppy, electronic dance jams like a turbocharged machine. Pairing with synth-savvy local producer Carlos Cortes (of DJ collective Assemble the Empire) allowed Lynn to pump out his most polished EP yet, Feed Me To The Wolves.”

THEN…on page 36, I am the subject of the SONICBIDS half-page ad! Check it out!

See you on the 18th, folks!

"THE POP! STEREO" POSTED THEIR REVIEW OF MY NEW RECORD TODAY ON THEIR SITE!

Logan Lynn (2009)

You can read the full review of “From Pillar To Post” (and nab a couple of the tracks) on “The Pop! Stereo” HERE.

Here’s a bit from the piece from “The Pop! Stereo” Music Blog:

“Oregonian, Logan Lynn is a troubadour who utilizes beats, synths and the preaching of the good word to convince the lovelorn and depressed that there’s more to life then being gutted all the time. Having released two previous albums that dwelled heavily on themes of religion, sexuality, and identity, the idea of singing to those troubled by all three is nothing new to Logan. On his third album, From Pillar to Post Logan Lynn has continued to develop his ability to lift troubled souls up via song and has also dived head on into exploring new sonic territory. As his bio states, he’s put the disco back in discomfort.

With an approach that’s pretty darn near close to the Postal Service, Logan Lynn weaves his tales around a rather shy and introspective voice that sounds as if they were written by the kid no one paid attention to. His outsider looking in perspective serves his ethereal like synth pop well as it sounds as if he’s whispering the lyrics to each song into your ear. As a result, From Pillar to Post is an intimate and personal record that anyone who has ever had any sort identity or relationship crisis can relate to.

From Pillar to Post is a lush, faithful and cozy record that will tug at your heart and give you a bear hug. It’s an emotional affair that might just bring you to tears. It’s Logan’s ability to write songs that are that heavy that makes him such a fantastic artist. The fact that he can successfully do it by laying it on the line in and packaging those hopes and tales of love and spirituality in the form of a pop song is a testament to the guy’s talent. Synth pop hasn’t had this much honesty and heart in a long time and that’s why I like From Pillar to Post as much as I do.”

Like…whoa.

Write It On My Left Arm Video Still (2009)

Hey kids-

It’s been a big, busy week. I have been thick into rehearsal mode, getting ready to unveil the new lineup and live show this fall at my Musicfest Northwest! That’s all happening on Friday, September 18th, so…come to my MFNW showcase in Portland and have your minds blown. (If you’re into that sorta thing.)

I am also working on THREE new studio projects (on top of “From Pillar To Post”, which is about to come out on Beat The World Records) so “busy” may be an understatement when talking about my current state of affairs!

This week I tracked vocals at Tom (aka “Cars and Trains“) Filepp’s studio for a project I’m in the midst of with Y-Tron (aka Bryan Cecil) and everything turned out pretty amazing! I’m excited about all the talented folks I am working with these days!!! I’ve also been plugging away at a record of cover songs with Producer Mac Valentine and new songs with Carlos (Cortes) for later, so…more for your ears soon (and moving forward)!

🙂

Have a great week everybody! I have some big announcements coming up and am having SUCH a hard time keeping my big mouth shut about them in the meantime! Patience is not really my specialty, as it turns out. ha ha ha

Love you all! Thanks for listening! New music and videos coming right up.

"FROM PILLAR TO POST" GOT A GREAT REVIEW TODAY ON THE "KNOX ROAD" INDIE MUSIC BLOG FROM NYC!

From Pillar To Post Artwork by Logan Lynn (2009)

CLICK HERE TO READ THE FULL POST…but here’s a bit to tide you over:

From “KNOX ROAD”:
“We received an advance copy of the album, titled, From Pillar To Post, and I’ve had it on repeat ever since. ‘Cassettes Won’t Listen’ fans, listen up. Lynn brings a plethora of electronic instrumentation to the table… Much like The Dandy Warhols, Lynn keeps most of his tunes upbeat, and doesn’t drown in the melancholic sounds of several other artists within the same genre (e.g. Electric President, Eberg, Tunng). “Feed Me To The Wolves” is one of the best tracks on the album, and a clear standout from the get-go. The pounding synths and keys, along with processed vocals from Lynn, work to create a stunning pyschedelic explosion – yet somehow Lynn manages to keep the song thoroughly grounded at the same time, with Cortes’ illustrious production a big help. By the way, “Burning Your Glory” will be used in the pilot for a new TV show, Astoria, Queens.”

Nice one, right?
