Logan Lynn (2010) LIVE at Holocene w/ "Cars & Trains" on beats!!!

Oh my God. We had such a good time at “Holocene” on Tuesday for “The Rumble: Portland” with “Jaguar Love” and “DJ A Train”! Thanks to all of you who came out on a school night to “make party” with us! It was great to see ya. Big thanks to “Future Sounds“, “Pampelmoose.com“, “Cravedog, Inc.“, “XO Publicity“, “Music Millennium“, “WOXY“, & “SPIN Earth” as well for sponsoring the event and making the party FREE for all!!! A good time is ALWAYS better when it’s FREE!!!

Speaking of FREE, Samuel Thomas (from “The Portland FREE Music Project“) was in attendance and filmed me performing “Write It On My Left Arm” with “Cars & Trains“. This was our final performance together for a while, so…I’m glad we have this to remember the evening for years to come. Tom Filepp is a truly special performer who I love dearly.

Have a look:

See you again at the end of the month, Portland! Until then, MY LIPS ARE SEALED.

Logan Lynn Performing at Berbati's Pan (1/23/2010)

Thanks so much to all of you who came out to Berbati’s in Portland this weekend. “Cars and Trains” and I had a great time and it meant a LOT that you picked my show over Ben Gibbard’s. For those of you who missed it, Samuel Thomas (of The Portland FREE Music Project) got “Bottom Your Way To The Top” on video (which is posted below) and I uploaded tons of photos from the evening on Myspace and Facebook. All 3 of the opening bands were AMAZING. If you haven’t already heard of “Yeah Great Fine”, “Swallows”, and “Winnie Byrd”, click on their names and check them out. You won’t be sorry.

I’ll be seeing you again ONE WEEK FROM TOMORROW (Tuesday, February 2nd) at Holocene for “The Rumble: Portland” with “Jaguar Love”!!! For now, here’s a little clip from Saturday…

(…and I quote…) “This is one of my religious songs. It’s about God and stuff. Actually…It’s about getting FUCKED.” (Somebody should really turn my microphone off in-between songs. I also introduced “Bleed Him Out” with “This next song is about smoking crack and getting the shit kicked out of you.” ha ha ha)

NEW RECORD + VIDEO FROM LOGAN LYNN'S 2009 LIVE SHOW COLLABORATOR + FRIEND "CARS & TRAINS"! CHECK IT OUT HERE!!!

Logan Lynn (2010) Cars & Trains

Well, anyone who saw me perform in 2009 or the first part of this new year has seen/will see my friend and live-show collaborator “Cars & Trains” (aka Tom Filepp) in action as my backing band on stage. He has scored himself a killer record deal with “Fake Four” and is heading off on tour here in a month or so to promote his new record, “The Roots, The Leaves” which comes out THIS TUESDAY!!! (1/26/2010)

I’ve had a wonderful time playing with him and have learned a lot about how to translate my music into the live-show format as a result of having him on the project this past year. He’s amazing. You still have a couple chances to see us do our thing: Berbati’s in Portland TOMORROW NIGHT (1/23) and again at Holocene in Portland on February 2nd for “The Rumble” with “Jaguar Love”.

Be sure to pick up the new “Cars & Trains” record next week when it hits and watch the video for the first single, “Intimidated By Silence” just below:

"OREGON MUSIC NEWS" REVIEW OF LOGAN LYNN'S SHOW AT DOUG FIR LAST THURSDAY POSTED TODAY!

Logan Lynn (2010)

The “Oregon Music News” team were in attendance at the big spectacle at the Doug Fir in Portland this past Thursday and posted their review of the evening on their site today. It’s GOOD. You can check it out below or by clicking HERE.

From “Oregon Music News”: (1/13/2010)

‘Logan Lynn, Cars & Trains, and The Gentry: Electricly emote at the Doug Fir’

“The combination of Logan Lynn and Cars & Trains playing together at the Doug Fir last Thursday was as fresh as I’d hoped, and The Gentry added an element of power. The show represented the Portland showcase of Lynn’s already nationally acclaimed fourth album, From Pillar to Post, and the debut of Cars & Trains’ sophomore album, The Roots, The Leaves, which comes out on January 24th. The Gentry, now sharing backup duty for Logan with Cars & Trains, showcased this new synthesis last week as well.

The performance, with Lynn backed by Cars & Trains, was honest and a little gritty but fresh, while at the same time evoking a throwback to Mates of State’s My Solo Project. Lynn’s soulful, slightly melancholy vocals were contrasted with happier, upbeat backup, creating a push-pull phenomenon, which gave the music depth and interest. The sound this duo produces is more than superficial–you have to think deeper to get it as a whole, which is refreshing, and likely why it’s frequently awarded the emotronic title–emotionally open, complexly happy-sad.

At the end of the show The Gentry joined the rest of the musicians on stage for a finale. While The Gentry opened the night with their own set of sucker punching beat-infused rock, they closed by backing Lynn and changing the overall story. The combo of Lynn and Cars & Trains says, “Here are some painful things, but what the fuck, let’s dance it off!” The combo of Lynn and The Gentry says, “Here are some painful things, let’s break a hoe… what?” Exhibit A: What one does. Exhibit B: What one’s Id would do. The whole experience left the audience eerily aware of Lynn’s inner workings, which I think is why he’s so relatable.”

"JUST OUT" NEWSWEEKLY REVIEW OF LOGAN LYNN'S SHOW AT "DOUG FIR" LOUNGE IN PORTLAND LAST NIGHT!!!

Logan Lynn performing at Doug Fir in Portland with The Gentry & Jen Folker (Dahlia) - 1/7/2010

I had such a nice time seeing all of you last night at the Doug Fir. It was a great turnout. Way to come show love on a Thursday night in the dead of winter, puddletown friends. I love you…SO MUCH.

Speaking of love, Portland Newsweekly “Just Out” posted a pretty amazing review of last night’s show on their website today. You can check it out HERE or you can read what they had to say below. There’s nothing like some good old-fashioned hometown sunshine to make me smile…

From “Just Out” Newsweekly (1/8/2010):
‘FEED US TO THE WOLVES, LOGAN’

“Portland features a plethora of musical geniuses; you can fill up any given week with a slew of stellar live shows boasting considerable talent (and, frankly, many do). That said, it never ceases to amaze me how excited my friends and I get when one of our beloved artists takes the stage — the endless parade of staggering talent never gets old.

Last night, Portland’s indie darling Logan Lynn delighted a rapt, wowed audience at the Doug Fir. He opened (and stayed) strong; his infamous anthem, “Feed Me to the Wolves,” set the tone for the night: alluring, assured, and more than a little bit amazing.

Not familiar with Lynn’s music? What rock have you been living under? Imagine Ladytron and Ben Gibbard having a secret, sexy love affair. Their entirely original, hybrid offspring: Logan Lynn. Shifting nimbly between energetic dance anthems and industrial alt-rock (and often combining both), he defies any easy niche or classification. Instrumentation is complex and multi-layered; lyrics are honest and exposed. Lynn, who doesn’t shy away from the “emo” moniker, doesn’t whine — he pleads, impassionedly. He pushes boundaries sonically and lyrically — and excels every time he does.

As he worked through his set, energy and momentum built — and the crowd danced. Man, did they dance. For his grand finale, Lynn brought fellow acts Cars and Trains and The Gentry on stage for a brilliant, raucous version of “Bottom Your Way to the Top.” Stunning everyone, even Lynn, Dahlia’s Jen Folker jumped on stage and joined in. One of the video’s stars, Devan McGrath, danced nearby. That moment of musical perfection sums up the entire evening: prodigious music, talent galore. Logan Lynn has a knack for turning a “concert” into a disco dance party. Isn’t that how every show should be? Well, a queer can dream.”

–Daniel Borgen

NOW, WATCH A LITTLE VIDEO CLIP THAT MY FRIEND JAMES BIRCH CAMPBELL PUT TOGETHER OF FOOTAGE AND STILLS HE SHOT DURING THE SHOW. IT’S SET TO THE “FROM PILLAR TO POST” VERSION OF “FEED ME TO THE WOLVES”.

"OREGON MUSIC NEWS" POSTED A PREVIEW OF LOGAN LYNN'S SHOW @ THE DOUG FIR THIS WEEK!!!

Logan Lynn (2010)

I just saw a preview of my show tomorrow at Doug Fir that “Oregon Music News” posted today on their site. You can redirect there by clicking HERE, or keep reading below. If you don’t have tickets yet, get them HERE.

From “Oregon Music News” (1/6/2010)

“Logan Lynn, Cars & Trains, and The Gentry: Gently electrifying the Doug Fir: If you think the new year should bring new music, then don’t miss this show tomorrow night at the Doug Fir. Logan Lynn just released his fourth album, From Pillar to Post, and will play as the night’s headliner alongside The Gentry’s intriguing mix of lyrical pondering and head bopping, shoulder popping beats. Lynn is already getting national press for the album, and tomorrow’s show will be Portland’s first taste of the live, two-band synthesis.

Cars & Trains artist Tom Filepp will showcase his sophomore offering, The Roots, The Leaves, which comes out January 24th. Portland is already buzzing about the album with its unique soundscapes, which include many local artists as guest vocalists, toy instruments, and tape samples. With theses new albums full of sounds that braid electronica, folk, pop, hip-hop, and rock together, these bands really will give us the gift of new music. Doors at 8 p.m., Show at 9 p.m. Thursday, January 7, Doug Fir Lounge, 830 E. Burnside, 503-231-WOOD, $6 at the door.

The “Willamette Week” wrote a feature preview spotlight about my upcoming show this week at Doug Fir with “Cars & Trains” and “The Gentry”. Pick up a copy of this week’s issue, Check it out online HERE, or you can read what they had to say about stuff and thangz up in these parts just below.

Willamette Week (1/6/2010)

THURSDAY, JANUARY 7TH: Doug Fir Lounge

Logan Lynn, The Gentry, Cars & Trains / $6-

[PET SHOP SOUNDS] While recently released fourth album From Pillar To Post piles up critical accolades and new video “Bottom Your Way to the Top” strokes cable playlists from MTV to, um, Spike, Logan Lynn’s tunefully bleeped singer-songwriterly electro ballads haven’t been heard live ‘round the icon’s hometown for months. This performance reportedly marks Lynn’s debut with a live backing band (openers the Gentry), though, set against the vocals’ honeyed melancholia, beats were never the point.

-Jay Horton, Willamette Week

“Icon”, huh? Nice one.

JANUARY 7TH, 2010: LOGAN LYNN, CARS & TRAINS, AND THE GENTRY PERFORMING AT "DOUG FIR" IN PORTLAND!

Logan Lynn (2009)

I’m really looking forward to my show at The Doug Fir in Portland coming up just after the new year on the 7th of January. It’s gonna be a really good night. Cars & Trains will be performing a set, then The Gentry will do their thing. After that, I will take the stage and will be performing with BOTH of the other bands at different points during my set. It’s gonna be WILD!

I’ll be touring with The Gentry next year at some point and they have come on board as my new live band (in place of “Cars & Trains” who is going on a different tour this time around!) Anyway, we’ll be unveiling all of that at this show, so don’t miss it. It is certainly a new experience to have a full band backing me. It’s LOUD and awesome.

See you in a couple weeks, everybody!!! Here’s the poster:
