LOGAN LYNN // NEW MONEY \\ OUT NOW!

WATCH VIDEO FROM LOGAN LYNN & THE GENTRY’S LAST TWO SHOWS FROM THEIR SUMMER TOUR HERE!

Well it has been really amazing getting to work with The Gentry this past year. I’ve been able to realize some loud rock dreams with those guys in tow and I’m really grateful for the time they spent working to prepare for our tour together this Summer and all the time spent traveling around the U.S. with me in a van. We had some really magical moments on and off stage. I was finally able to move past some fairly long-standing stage fright and found freedom in the band format, having just been a singing DJ up to that point. I have Gino, Steve & AC to thanks for that.

We have had our share of disasters along the way as well…much of which revolved around our drummer’s body slowly breaking bone by bone. Dude broke his hand in San Francisco (and just kept playing) then he broke his foot 4 days before the big farewell show at Mississippi Studios in Portland and had surgery on his foot (metal plate anyone?) THE DAY BEFORE. He’s an animal.

At any rate, we made some last minute adjustments to the show obviously because he couldn’t play the entire hour long set. One such change was a bit of a throwback to my humble singing DJ beginnings from years back. It was fun to play some of the new stuff and have it just be pop. If my lighting guy had remembered to bring his board to go along with the lights we lugged to the venue it would have been a lot better…or maybe not. It ended up being very intimate, very bare bones, unmasked & vulnerable. It seemed like a very appropriate way to leave things. Here’s a clip from the karaoke portion of last week’s final show:

Logan Lynn: “Nobody Knows The Trouble I’ve Seen” & “Velocity” LIVE at Mississippi Studios, Portland (August 20th, 2010)

Next up is a clip from our secret show at this year’s Salem Pride Festival. It ended up being one of the best shows of the entire Summer. Sadly, the camera was right in front of Gino’s guitar amp so the sound of this video is way more fucked up than it usually is but it was such a good day I figured I’d post it anyway.

THE CALIFORNIA LEG OF MY SUMMER TOUR IS IN THE BAG! BIG THANKS TO THE GENTRY & THE HUGS FOR COMING ALONG WITH!

I’ve actually been home from our trip since last Friday but it’s taken me 5 days to decompress. That was wild, wild stuff people. ha ha ha — Thanks so much to The Gentry and The Hugs for making the long journey to California with me and putting on amazing shows all week.

We shot video at both the San Francisco and Sacramento shows which I’ll post as soon as I get them from AC. It was really fun to see all of our California friends. I forgot how beautiful everyone is in San Francisco! Also, those kids aren’t “too cool” to dance. It’s fucking awesome. We’ll be back soon to do it again!!!

Check out all the photos from our California trip (as well as shots from the shows) on Myspace HERE and on Facebook HERE.

LOGAN LYNN & THE GENTRY’S WEST COAST SUMMER TOUR IS THE FEATURE STORY TODAY ON NW MUSIC BLOG!

My Summer tour with The Gentry is the feature story on NW Music Blog today! They had some super nice stuff to say about me, our recent shows in the Pacific Northwest, The Gentry, and the rest of our tour (which we are just about 6 weeks into) with almost exactly that many weeks left!

Check out what they had to say HERE or keep reading below. It’s super nice. Awwwww………..

From NW Music Blog: (July 1st, 2010)

“Logan Lynn is touring in support of his recently released and critically acclaimed CD, From Pillar to Post, on The Dandy Warhol’s indie Beat The World Records. His three CDs have generated an extraordinary amount of buzz, particularly in the Portland, San Francisco, Seattle, San Diego, and New York LGBT communities. Additionally, his videos have been well received on MTV, VH1, and LOGO channels. Comparisons ranging from The Postal Service to M83, Lykke Li to Cut Copy, and even Ladytron, Goldfrapp, and indie rockers Metric, are often applied to Logan’s music.

The Gentry, a separate entity providing Rock & Roll to Logan’s emo-tronic sound, also have a new record recently released entitled ‘Sex by the Unit’, which sports an awesome condom-like package which is well worth the $10 I paid for mine. You even have to tear it like a condom package.

Recent shows in the Pacific Northwest have been raucous parties, featuring lines stretching around the block, and satisfied partied-out party-goers filtering out into the early morning. The Oregon Music News recently profiled Logan’s growing impact on Read the rest of this entry »

WATCH VIDEO OF LOGAN LYNN & THE GENTRY PERFORMING AT BLOW PONY “BASH BACK!” LAST SATURDAY NIGHT HERE!

Well, people…we did it again! Last Saturday night was the biggest Blow Pony ever. Thanks so much for coming out, y’all! My favorite part of the night was when Beth Ditto & Nathan “Brace Paine” Howdeshell (from Gossip) were dancing front and center during “Come Home”. Oh my God. Portland is my favorite.

For those of you who weren’t there (and for those of you who were, but couldn’t get past security to get upstairs for my set) below is a bit of what went down on stage with me and The Gentry.

Here are our opening 2 songs, “Smoke Rings” and “Bottom Your Way To The Top”. This was so fun.

…we went from there into “Come Home”…

…and “Write It On My Left Arm” (with a little bit of me preaching to the queers beforehand about telling all the gay hating fuckwads who think we should burn in hell for being ourselves to go screw)…

Big thanks to Airick and the Pony crew for having us play their Pride party and to Kaj-Anne Pepper, Jer Ber Jones, Christeene and all the resident Blow Pony DJs for being so cool and making things awesome with us! We had a great night.

WATCH VIDEO OF LOGAN LYNN & THE GENTRY FAILING TO BE “FAMILY-FRIENDLY” AT THE CAPITAL CITY PRIDE FESTIVAL HERE!

Last week my band and I drove to Olympia to perform at the 2010 Capital City Pride Festival. We had the best time on Friday night dancing ’til the wee hours at Jake’s On 4th, then got up really early on Saturday for our 9am soundcheck where they had me sign a piece of paper saying that we would not use profanity on stage. Needless to say, that’s when things kind-of went South.

Whatever talentless old fart the nice folks at Capital City Pride had hired to run sound was a dick. He wouldn’t listen to any of us in the morning during our check and was blowing us off like “how dare these kids tell me what to do” so we didn’t push…but I knew something was going to go terribly wrong for us almost as soon as we met his dumb ass.

When The Gentry and I took the stage, Mr. Sound Douche had completely changed the board and none of our in-ear monitors worked so none of us could hear ourselves or each other, basically making it where we had to all play by memory and just hope for the best. Here we are doing just that with “Smoke Rings“. Considering we can’t hear a goddamn thing we are singing or playing, what key we’re supposed to be in, or where we are at in the song, I’m proud of us. My attitude changes about halfway through this song, though…to pure, red-headed EVIL.

I tried to be professional and communicate with the engineer via the usual hand signals and stage cues at first, but he wasn’t paying attention so by song 3 I started calling him out in the hopes that someone from the festival might be able to go back there and save the day. I proceeded to do this for the next few songs, slowly becoming more and more frustrated with his not fixing the problem.

I honestly never do shit like this and I’m a little embarrassed about turning into such a dick myself on stage, but it was a nightmare so I just decided to make it a TOTAL nightmare and fight with the sound guy like some kind of out-of-control pop diva. He was making me sound like an amateur, so making him my bitch seemed like the right thing to do at the time, as witnessed in the video of us performing “Come Home” like angry young gentlemen below:

Evidently, the event sponsors and coordinators weren’t digging our psychotic dance rock and bad attitudes any more than we were digging the sound guy fucking up our show and them telling us not to swear, because they cut my set short after the 6th song. Oh well!

I think it’s funny that we got kicked off the steps of the state capital…and I partially blame Kimya Dawson (from the “Juno” soundtrack) and Coyote Grace who played for a full hour before us. They are both very soft and sweet and had a very positive message. We are dark and dirty and sing songs about getting fucked and doing drugs. Basically, we might as well have been eating the faces off their children up there following those two acts.

In other words…IT WAS FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! My favorite part of the day was when Gino jumped off the stage and started dancing with the cracker in the turquoise tank top. It made my day and pretty much summed up Olympia Gape Ride for us all. ha ha ha

For those of you who missed it, you can watch the video below.  This is one of the new songs from my upcoming record that, until now, nobody has really heard.  Sorry in advance for the shitty ass camera microphone sound quality.

OREGON MUSIC NEWS STORY TODAY ON LOGAN LYNN & THE GENTRY: "EMOTRONIC GOES POST-PUNK"!

OMN (Oregon Music News) came to The Odditorium the other night while we were setting up for yesterday’s shoot and interviewed me and The Gentry. They ran a story today, along with the interview and some MP3 LIVE audio from yesterday!!! Click HERE to check it out at their site or keep reading below…

From “Oregon Music News”: (5/26/2010)

“Logan Lynn & The Gentry: Emotronic goes post-punk”

It is 9pm and Logan Lynn and The Gentry are scrambling to sound-check in a cavernous warehouse space in Portland’s NW industrial district. “We’re in the Dandy’s kingdom,” Lynn says of The Odditorium, the sprawling studio of the Dandy Warhols.

The main room has giant murals leaning on almost every surface, a small fleet of motorcycles in the rear. There’s a kitchen outfitted better than most restaurants. The oddly placed nooks, crannies, windows and doors suggest a building cobbled together from several smaller ones.

The band is setting up for an early morning video shoot at The Odditorium with local CBS affiliate Koin 6. They’re shooting promo videos too, for a tour they’re kicking off this Thursday, May 27th, at the Doug Fir Lounge with DoublePlusGood and Fleshtone.

Logan Lynn is known for his emotronic, electro-pop, and OMN has profiled him before. In the past he’s mostly performed alone, sometimes bringing along a producer like Cars & Trains, while he stood out front crooning into a mic over layers of soft electronics. But for this Thursday’s show, and this summer’s upcoming tour, he’s brought along a full band: slamming dance-electro rockers The Gentry.

He calls himself a “bad hostess” as the band hurries to set up. He seems anxious, but affable. Will an act that’s gained popularity for soft, emotive electronics sit well with an accustomed fan base after adding a full, raucous band?

“I was scared about what people were gonna do,” Lynn says. But after their first performance at Blow Pony in February, “We had every single ear and eye on us. They were into it. I checked the video just to make sure. It’s real.”

The transition began in December “and we just went full force, we started practicing 30 hours a week.” OMN caught up with Logan Lynn, and Gino Mari (vocals, guitar), Steve Taylor (synthesizers, bass), and Andrew Carrion [A.C.] (drums) of The Gentry between rehearsals to talk about the change. Plus, there’s a new live track of their collaboration below.

WATCH THE VIDEO FROM LOGAN LYNN'S "BLOW PONY" PERFORMANCE LAST WEEKEND WITH "THE GENTRY" HERE!!!

Logan Lynn Performing at "Blow Pony" (2010)

OK, so…Let me just start by saying HOLY SHIT THERE WERE A LOT OF PEOPLE AT THAT “BLOW PONY VS. LOGAN LYNN” SHOW ON SATURDAY!!! Thanks for coming out like a badass, Portland. I have never seen “Rotture” at capacity (which it hit at 11pm) and I have NEVER in my life seen a line that goes all the way around an entire city block to get in to any party in this town. It was pretty amazing. My lighting guy Chad Crooks got video of the line which I will post sometime, but check out this picture of the crowd! It was literally wall to wall with people in there when I took the stage with “The Gentry” at 12:30. Good Lord.

Blow Pony VS. Logan Lynn (2/27/2010) Rotture, Portland

Thanks so much to my new backing band “The Gentry“. They have been busting out amazing new arrangements of my songs and have truly infused something really exciting into my live show experience. It’s a whole new world, people. Go check out their site HERE. Also, big thanks to Airick & the “Blow Pony” crew for having us play their party…and to Artemis Chase for taking such good care of me and “The Gentry” boys all night. We had so much fun.

For those of you who missed it (and for those of you who were still standing in the line when we played) here is some video. It’s kind-of like being there, but with crappy sound!

🙂

COME OUT TO SEE US THIS SPRING & SUMMER WHEN WE START PLAYING ALL OVER THE PLACE!!! LOGAN LYNN + THE GENTRY = REALLY, REALLY GOOD TIMES.
