Logan Lynn and Gino Mari on “Sounds of PDX” This Week with Vortex Music Magazine, Portland Radio Project and PDX Spotlight!

logan-lynn-and-gino-mari-on-sounds-of-pdx-radio-december-2016

Thanks again to Portland Radio Project, Vortex Music Magazine and PDX Spotlight for having us on Sounds of PDX this week! Listen HERE or keep reading below.

From Portland Radio Project:

Recording artist Logan Lynn and producer Gino Mari dropped by the show this week to talk about their influences, songwriting process and new album. A large part of the PDX Spotlight playlist was from Logan’s latest release titled Adieu, but we also listened to Gino and Logan’s influences including Mitski, Whitey, Sam Phillips, The Dandy Warhols, and more. We talked about their production process, touring together, and the maturation of artists. Our listeners heard Logan open up about his mental health and history with addiction. Logan also shared a lot of great information about Keep Oregon Well and his approach to mental health self care. A common theme through the night was the importance of being congruent with your art and being honest with yourself.

A huge thank you to Logan Lynn and Gino Mari for spending the evening with me and sharing their stories! Please enjoy the podcast!

Sex, Dogs and Mental Health? Logan Lynn Tackles Depression and Suicidal Ideation on New Record

by Chris Young

After years of translating emotional hardship into musical coherence, Lynn’s grief has “opened the door to creating something beautiful” as he returns with his eighth studio record, ‘Adieu,’ in September.

To put it simply, Logan Lynn’s been through some shit lately. After losing his beloved Pomeranian, Dutch, followed by the demise of his romantic relationship, Lynn documented, sonically, all the emotion that was pouring forth from his being.

Recording some 500 voice notes on his phone “over the course of this particular four-month mental health crisis,” Lynn waded “through the hours of often incoherent, tearful screaming sessions and a cappella melodies” and found the bones to his new record, Adieu.

“Unlike all of my other albums, every single one of these songs was born in my head without any instruments,” Lynn explains. “They all came out almost like spirituals.” Alongside longtime collaborator and producer Gino Mari, the pair took the pieces and made them into songs. “It has been difficult and beautiful and I feel so proud of what we have made out of something so terrible.” Read the rest of this entry »

Logan Lynn We Will Overcome Video Premiere on Vortex Music Mag (2014)

My new video premiered this morning on the Vortex Music Magazine site. It is an homage to my family and community, and is about surviving together in the face of grief and loss.

In light of the past few years of losing some of our own, it has been clear that our love — and their love for us — continues to hold my family together, long after they have gone.

Thank you to my uncle David for capturing tons of old family movies decades ago. It is such a special thing to have living images of my grandparents, of my beloved family (Pat, Scott, Steve, Debby, Colleen, Mildred, Loy, Teresa, Gene and others) to build this story around.

…and for those of you in my community who have ever felt oppressed by the world, I hope you are also enveloped by hope, and that love is winning in your life.
